With this service call we were working with a single spring that was installed on a eight foot double car garage change in Ladner / Delta. The single spring broke without warning and scared the customer to the point where she thought there was vehicle collision outside her house. You can see in the picture that the single spring has a gap where there wasn’t one. The spring that was removed was a .262 wire size which is a large blue spring. We balanced out the single spring by installing two .207 wire (yellow springs) which gives the door a more distributed lift. Garage Door Springs have a Rating of 10,000 cycles which is a minimum of three years, on average a spring will last on average about seven years of normal garage door use.
