How To Tell If You Have a Broken Spring In Your Garage Door

 In blog, Installations, Service

Broken springs are something that we deal with quite often especially this time of year, here are some tips that can help you diagnose your problem. One of the hugest things we often hear when we get service calls is that the garage door will only go up about 6″ and then stop. Another thing that we often hear is that the cables appear to have broken off, it looks like that because when the garage door drops the cables fly every which way but generally it is very rare that the cables actually break it just looks that way for the time being. The most common way to diagnose a broken spring though is to see about a 2″ gap in the spring. When a spring is new and not broken it is one long piece fully attached but when a spring breaks it often causes a gap in the spring.
